Understanding Wire Thickness & Gauge
Standard Wire Gauge (SWG) is an obsolete method of measuring the thickness of wire which dates back to 1735. However, it is still much used in Floristry and for Guitar Strings!
Basically the thinner the wire the higher the gauge, so 30swg is a very fine wire and 19swg is a thick wire.
Metric measurements are becoming more common and will eventually replace SWG so we quote the metric measurement first in our product descriptions but still include the SWG.
